The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Sometimes I wish I could write songs like some of my musical heroes, people like Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon and Mark Knoffler. Alas musical tone was something that I missed out on. Sometimes their song lines come to me when I am out and about and I see something that sparks a word or a phrase and I ponder about putting songs to some of my visual images. Some song lines create strong visual images in my mind and these return to my consciousness whenever my eye picks up a nuance of a line somewhere. I thought I might try and share a few of these with you. I’ll start with Mr Morrison and a song from his 1997 album The Healing Game, the first verse of “The piper at the gates of dawn” is as follows…..

The coolness of the riverbank, and the whispering of the reeds

Daybreak is not so very far away

Enchanted and spellbound, in the silence they lingered

And rowed the boat as the light grew steadily strong

And the birds were silent, as they listened for the heavenly music

I think this song, the music and the lyrics make a sublime combination with these two images I took at Meda Station in the Kimberley region of Western Australia
